Why wellness-led spaces are shaping the future workplace
John Williams features in Interior Design Magazine
Hybrid and agile working are still the reality for most organisations, but the bigger shift we’re seeing is what workplaces are now being designed to support. The conversation has moved beyond occupancy and attendance patterns to something far more meaningful: how the workplace can strengthen culture, improve wellbeing and help people do their best work when they come together.
In Interior Designer magazine’s Ask the Designer feature, our Director and Founder John Williams reflects on the lasting impact of the pandemic on workplace expectations. While hybrid working may be the headline, John suggests the real long-term change is the growing priority placed on employees’ mental and physical health, alongside a renewed appreciation of business culture. As he shares in the feature,
“This is the real long-term change, the prioritising of employees’ mental and physical health and a greater appreciation of business culture.”
Clients still need the essentials, but increasingly they are asking for workplaces that offer variety and choice, and that feel supportive rather than simply functional. Communal and wellness-led spaces are in higher demand, not as added extras but as a core part of the workplace experience. Alongside this, there is consistent need for breakout areas, quieter focus settings and inclusive provision that supports different working styles and needs.
For many organisations, the office is no longer expected to do one job. It needs to work harder, hosting moments of collaboration and connection, supporting concentration, and offering spaces that help people feel comfortable, included and energised. In a hybrid world, culture can’t rely on proximity alone, and the workplace increasingly plays an active role in bringing teams together with intention.
