Stockroom A New Civic Landmark for Stockport
We’re proud to share that Stockroom, our recently completed cultural and creative hub for Stockport Council, has been featured in Mix Interiors Issue 240.
This recognition reflects the vision and impact of a project that redefines what a civic destination can be, a truly community-first design where learning, creativity and connection come together in the heart of Stockport town centre.
A Civic Space Shaped by Its People
More than a refurbishment, Stockroom is a bold step in urban regeneration. The brief was to create an inclusive, multifunctional environment that responds to the evolving needs of the town and the result is a new civic typology that merges library services, cultural experiences, and community learning spaces.
Led by our Studio Operations Director Sarah Dabbs, in collaboration with our Commercial design team, the project was informed by deep local engagement. Every layer from branding and murals to recycled materials and spatial layout was co-created with Stockport’s residents.
“It’s not a list of guaranteed ingredients,” says Sarah in the Mix feature. “Stockroom works because it responds directly to Stockport’s evolving needs.”
Stockroom reflects SpaceInvader’s ethos of designing with people, place and purpose. Key features include:
Recycled community-made surfaces embedded with stories and sustainability
Wayfinding and signage inspired by local culture and creative expression
Flexible zones that adapt for events, exhibitions, learning and quiet reflection
Biophilic and inclusive design elements to welcome users of all ages and backgrounds
The project was delivered in close collaboration with AEW Architects, CBRE, Kier Group, Tier Consult Group, S I Sealy, and Mike Sian Studio. Photography by Stockport Council.
We’re grateful to Mix Interiors and Ellie Foster for highlighting the spirit and social value behind this space.
