Six Months On: Reflecting on SpaceInvader's B Corp Journey
Six months ago, SpaceInvader became a Certified B Corporation™, joining a global community of businesses committed to balancing purpose and profit.
For the studio, certification was never about achieving a badge. Instead, it represented an opportunity to formally measure and strengthen the values that have shaped the business since its inception, recognising the impact design can have on people, communities and the environment.
As the business reflects on the first six months of certification, that commitment remains unchanged.
B Corp provides an independent framework for accountability, helping organisations evaluate how they operate across areas including governance, people, community and environmental impact. For SpaceInvader, the certification process reinforced a belief that great design should create value beyond the spaces themselves.
Across workplace, hospitality, hotel, stadia, civic and community projects, the studio has long championed a people-focused approach to design. Whether supporting wellbeing, encouraging inclusivity or considering the long-term environmental impact of a project, the aim is to create places that deliver meaningful experiences while contributing positively to the wider world.
Certification marked an important milestone, but it was never intended to be a finish line. Like all Certified B Corporations™, SpaceInvader is committed to continuous improvement, using the framework to challenge the business, strengthen decision-making and embed positive impact throughout its operations.
Reflecting on the journey, Founder and Director John Williams believes the value of B Corp lies in the accountability it provides and the opportunity to demonstrate that responsible business practices and commercial success can work hand in hand.
As SpaceInvader looks ahead, the principles that guided its B Corp journey continue to influence how the studio thinks, works and designs. From supporting clients in creating healthier, more inclusive environments to considering the social and environmental impact of every project, purposeful design remains central to the business.
Six months on, B Corp continues to serve as a reminder that design has the power to shape more than space. It can shape culture, support wellbeing and create lasting positive impact.
