We were appointed to design a scheme for a new hotel opportunity in Malta under the Tribe hotel brand. Aimed at a creative, business-minded and modern traveller demographic, Tribe Malta will provide an environment to eat, work and play for all.

The hotel concept draws influence from Malta’s rich film industry, creating moments that are both immersive and instagrammable within the space through lighting installations and the use of video and projection art.

Early in the design process, we were inspired by the Zoetrope – a pre-film animation device which, when spun, produces the illusion of motion from a sequence of images. Tying in both the locality of the film industry and bold, contrasting graphics from the Tribe brand, this influence can be seen throughout the scheme across furniture finishes, tiles and feature lighting displays.

The hotel certainly feels a part of the distinctive Tribe brand, whilst having its own identity rooted in its Maltese location.
