About

SpaceInvader is a multi-award-winning interior design agency and one of the UK’s premier design consultancies. Founded in 2009 by Director/Founder John Williams, the company started life as a commercial sector specialist, working on building refurbishments (Cat A) and office fit-out works (Cat B), before developing its offer further into the hotel and hospitality, stadia hospitality design and community-based sectors.

They’re head and shoulders above most of their direct competitors. They speak a different language.
— Phil Marsden, Project Manager, MUSE Developments

The company’s talented interiors, graphics and CGI team, backed by highly-accomplished technical and principal design, is based in SpaceInvader’s central Manchester studio. The whole team is dedicated to exploring design’s potential to enhance people’s lives. The studio’s philosophy is to be adaptable, inclusive and to listen very carefully to client wishes, bringing energy, ideas and commitment to every project, but never imposing a design solution.

We are as dedicated to our team as we are to our clients with a creative and inclusive culture at the centre of everything we do. We always seek to employ people with a unique outlook on design and on life and we give our designers a lot of creative freedom. We grow our team’s skills at every chance, both through carefully-managed increased responsibility on projects and by giving them the chance to refine their thinking and presentation skills by taking part in panels, events and media engagement.

SpaceInvader have been working with Accor for 5 years on a number of our hotel brands such as Tribe, Pullman, Greet and Ibis. They are a joy to collaborate with and, as well as understanding the intricacies of our different brands, they bring their own element of unique creativity to every single project. They listen and work hard to deliver what we need and their understanding of lifestyle hospitality, deep knowledge of materials and finishes ensures our spaces are robust and fit for purpose.

The final tenets that drive us are our commitments to the wellbeing of end-users and the planet via our dedicated approach to sustainability. The first element of these focuses on materials, the supply chain and their circularity. The second, on health and wellbeing, includes a strong natural biophilic and biodiverse philosophy with consideration of accessibility and inclusivity. The third is a commitment to combatting climate change through minimal energy use and a whole-life-approach, including high-durability levels in all FF&E specifications, low through-life maintenance and the design of furniture and materials for easy reconfiguration and disassembly. Finally, a commitment to ethics and equality, which means prioritising local suppliers and ensuring a sense of location and locality.
