The brief to SpaceInvader for the ground floor was to create a central community destination space, home to a variety of facilities and functions to support the residents of Number One, as well as those using the adjacent railway station, visitors and future residents.
Connection to the natural exterior surroundings and the generous interior planting reflects the emphasis on biophilic design, providing high levels of indoor air quality and a reduction in pollutants from office equipment – boosting well-being.
For the ground floor mixed use spaces, considered space planning coupled with bold forms and a layered materials palette ensures that the different functions and demographic of staff / visitors / cafe and evening bar clientele can “rub along” together in the one space.
Sustainable travel is promoted through the onsite railway station, tailored travel guide, car share scheme, cycle and scooter hire and EV charging points. The riverside setting and green space are proven to reduce stress, blood pressure levels, heart rates and productivity. Occupants note the sense of calm and serenity through reduced columns on floorplates, allowing more natural light to stream into the floorplate and expansive views.
