The Four Points Express by Sheraton has been transformed into a contemporary, welcoming retreat inspired by the local Georgian architecture and nearby parks.

The design brief centred on creating a space that harmonises with the hotel's Bloomsbury location, reflecting its rich history while providing a modern, comfortable, and affordable guest experience. We were tasked with incorporating local cultural elements, ensuring practicality for both guests and operators, and embracing sustainability. Drawing inspiration from Woburn Walk’s Georgian architecture, local parks, and the literary heritage of Charles Dickens, we developed a design that resonates with the local character, offering guests a memorable and engaging stay.

Interior of a modern bar with a curved white countertop, black bar stools with woven backs, large windows, and decorative shelves with bottles and plants.

Key design features included an open, inviting reception area, the vibrant Raven restaurant, a lively bar, and a coffee shop. Space was optimised with the addition of a new lower ground floor for guest rooms and staff facilities, while the ground floor extension created a seamless flow between public and dining spaces.

A bright, modern restaurant dining area with tables and chairs, green upholstered bench seating, a buffet area with food, and large windows letting in natural light.
Decorative shelves with a potted plant, bird figurines, and glassware, against a background of green stained glass windows

Materials were carefully selected to bridge the hotel's modern identity with Bloomsbury’s rich history. The use of natural wood, aged brass, and soft velvets pays homage to local heritage, while modern touches, such as LED lighting and sustainable plywood, added a fresh, functional element. In the Raven restaurant, Dickensian charm shines through with bird motifs and literary references, a nod to Charles Dickens’ pet raven, Grip.

A neatly made hotel bed with white linens and two large white pillows, plus a small yellow decorative pillow with a white geometric pattern, in front of a beige wall with two black-framed black and white photographs of city scenes hanging above. To the right, a wall-mounted lamp and power outlets are visible.

The guest rooms, designed with practicality and comfort in mind, feature multifunctional furniture like under-bed storage and compact workstations that double as laptop trays. The soft, neutral tones in the colour palette visually expand the rooms, while the use of natural light and energy-efficient lighting creates a warm, relaxing atmosphere.

The interior design of Four Points Express by Sheraton successfully marries the hotel’s brand identity with the historical and cultural essence of Bloomsbury, resulting in a space that is both functional and inspiring. Our approach demonstrated creativity, innovation, and a commitment to sustainability, ensuring a positive experience for both guests and operators.
