AI in Interior Design: Supporter or Disruptor?

Person at table

At the recent Material Source roundtable in Manchester, SpaceInvader’s Associate Director, Imogen Woodage, joined leading voices in the commercial interiors sector to explore a critical question: “Is AI a helpful supporter or a potential design destructor?”

The discussion brought together experts from Claremont Group Interiors, Bruntwood SciTech, Sculpt Design, Space Zero, Corstorphine & Wright, AEW Architects, DMWR Architects, and PrintCity MMU, highlighting the role of AI in shaping the future of workplace and commercial interior design.

Imogen offered a grounded perspective on AI’s practical applications for interior designers. From automating visualisation tweaks to streamlining proposal drafts, she noted how AI tools can improve efficiency without compromising creativity.

“AI has real potential to reduce repetitive tasks and free up time for innovation,” Imogen explained. “But it’s essential we keep the human-centred design approach at the heart of every project.”

This thought-provoking conversation underscored the importance of balancing innovation with intuition, a challenge facing commercial interior designers as AI technology evolves.
